Headache is one of the most common cause of health complaint and every 9 out of 10 people gets affected by that at least once in their life. But when the pain becomes unbearable, people go for alternative methods of treatment to get relief from the pain. Chiropractic care for headaches is one of the best options of treatment to relieve headache.
A tension headache is usually a minor pain or pressure sensation in the head that can go up to shoulders and neck. These headaches can be caused because of muscular tension in the head, neck and face region or by stress. Though these headaches are not very severe, they can interfere with the normal activities and in some cases can result in serious pain condition. Chronic tension headaches can last from a few minutes to many hours and can happen many times in a week.
A migraine is a pulsing or throbbing pain which is usually felt on one side of the head. Most of the patients who suffer from migraine feel some sort of sensory warning that precedes the pain. Warning signs can be visual disturbances in the form of flashes of light or blind spots, vomiting, nausea and tingling in the arm. There can be side effects like noise sensitivity, light, exacerbation of pain with physical movements and continuous nausea. The discomfort and pain can last for many days.
Chiropractors are aware of the various kinds of headaches and can provide modalities like heat applications and techniques that are created for providing relief from pain and pressure. Manual things that are involved in chiropractic treatment are muscle tension and spasm relief with the help of spinal manipulation and stretching of the muscles and trigger point techniques so that hyper irritable knots can be released in the muscles or fascia. Common trigger points in case of headaches are the area close to the eyes to the forehead and top of the head. They can also be located in the shoulder and neck regions.
The longer you are able to maintain the chiropractic adjustment, the faster you can recover with the help of chiropractic. Chiropractic adjustment helps in realigning the spine and retains muscles to help holding up the spine in the right position and not just quick snaps and cracks. There are a few things that the patients can do in order to help and maintain the adjustment. You should always keep all of the appointments. One of the biggest mistakes that patients do is missing their appointment. It is a crucial factor keeping up to your appointments because the frequency of adjustments is important for recovery. You should also keep in mind to perform the exercises suggested by your chiropractor. Many times chiropractors ask the patients to perform certain exercises and it is important that they do them as asked. This helps in speeding up the recovery process. Another thing to keep in mind is to avoid repeating the problem that led to the problem. This becomes hard to do at times as habits do not change easily. If you just slump on the couch with the remote, it does not help in improving the posture and alignment of the spine. This only makes the situation worse. You should always be active. It is believed that an active patient is healthy. Be it running, walking or swimming, exercises and movement helps the joints and muscles to stretch and achieve their full range of motion. Although it seems to be tough but exercises help in the healing process and makes it fast. You need to relax. This is an easy work. Stress does not help anytime. It only adds in tension to the body and that causes the muscles to become tight in certain parts. These tight muscles pull the skeletal structure out of alignment. The misalignment results in the need to get chiropractic adjustment. If you relax and take things easy, you can avoid a lot of pain and trouble. You should also listen to your body. All these things help in maintaining good health.
Migraine is a painful category of headache. The pain can be pulsing or throbbing in one part of the head. Patients of migraine are quite sensitive to sound and light when they have migraine and can also get vomiting and nauseated at times too. Migraine accompanied by altered bodily perceptions and nausea can be a neurological syndrome.
There are many drugs and medicines that can control migraine but none of them can provide a permanent solution. Chiropractic treatment and spinal manipulation is one of the best methods to cure migraines and severe headaches. It is a very natural method to help cure migraine and headache.
Chiropractors use holistic approach with the help of spinal manipulation, massage and periodic adjustment of soft tissue and joints for pain relief. It is a way better option than drugs which might dial down the pain for sometime but cannot render a long term solution for it.
At times, the bones in the neck are not at the right location and the muscles near the bones are not tight and rigid enough. This is known as subluxation in medical terms. When there is a subluxation, the nerves that come out of the spine are irritated and this causes migraines. Since the bones are very close to the right location, it gives the impression that they are in the right location. Your chiropractor will treat this condition by pushing these bones back to their right place. Slow and gentle stretching exercises of the neck can also help in getting relief from the pain.
To put it in medical terms, chiropractic treatment helps in treating migraine headaches by repositioning the occiput upon the first cervical vertebrae and removes the pressure on the postganglionic sympathetic nerve fibers that pass from the foramen lacerum. There are special equipments, tables, cushions, etc have been created by chiropractors to check and correct neck problems that can lead to headache and migraines.
Anxiety is a problem that can prove to be really harmful for a person’s life and sense of individualism. You should not ignore this and sit back but do something when you are having anxiety and panic attacks on a regular basis or you are having fearful thoughts and images. Chiropractic treatment for anxiety attacks is a very natural, gentle and effective form of treatment. This helps you in reducing the number of occurrences of attacks. It helps you in being more stable in case you have an attack and also learn how to handle them.
Almost all of us go through this kind of attack at some point in our life. When we are not certain about our environment or are anticipating an unknown outcome, this emotion is experienced by us. Usually, these moments are non-debilitating and transitory. People who suffer from anxiety attacks, it can be really scary and paralyzing at times.
A lot of things can be the reason for anxiety but when we talk about anxiety disorder, there is no confirm cause. Studies predict that for some people, the reason can be a genetic predisposition or a behavior from watching family members with this kind of disorder while in some other people; the reason can be an imbalance in the biochemistry of the brain.
There are many treatment options that are available in case of anxiety ranging from alternative holistic approach to western medical approach. Exercise, prescribed drugs, hypnosis, biofeedback and cognitive therapy are some of the options that can help in relieving the symptoms of this disorder. The best approach is chiropractic treatment for the problem of anxiety disorder.
Our brain regulates the body with the help of the spinal cord and the delicate nerves that run from it. These nerves go through the spaces between the vertebrae in the spine and carry signals to various parts of the body.
Chiropractic treatment targets on providing relief to the distortion in the spinal cord by putting pressure on the points where the vertebrae and the spinal cord join. Chiropractic care focuses on adjusting the vertebrae. It also focuses on certain points known as spinal gateways which can change the state of the spinal cord. This helps the vertebrae to self correct and helps the neurology to release tension in the system. This provides calmness and peace to the mind. So, if you are having the problem of anxiety disorder, then you should go for chiropractic treatment.
It is believed in chiropractic care that good health depends on a healthy spinal column and nervous system. At times, there is a misalignment in the vertebrae and pressure is exerted on the nerves that exit the spinal cord. Chiropractic subluxation is the term given to misaligned vertebrae.
In order to return the vertebrae in their right positions and to help them mobilize and move in a free manner, chiropractors use certain techniques in case of subluxations. These techniques are termed as spinal adjustments or manipulations. When an adjustment takes place, the vertebrae are freed from the wrong or misaligned position and are returned to the right position in the spine. After an adjustment, the body is allowed to heal.
Chiropractors are highly trained in many adjustment techniques and methods. Some of these techniques are carried out by hands whereas some others need the use of special instruments. According to your condition, your chiropractor will select the method that will work best for you. Different patients need different method of treatment.
Some of the commonly used techniques by chiropractors are motion palpation, toggle drop, release work, lumbar roll, manipulation done under anesthesia, table adjustments, and instrument adjustments. These techniques are carried out in different conditions and depending on the seriousness of the condition of the patient.
Chiropractic treatment and adjustments help in many painful conditions to get relief and feel free movement. It is a natural method of handling pain in various parts of the body. Your chiropractor not only treats your problem but also gives you advice on your diet, lifestyle and exercises. Exercises help to speed up the recovery process. You should always keep in mind that before getting full relief, you might need to go for chiropractic treatment a few times. So, if you are suffering from pain or any type of problem, you should consult your chiropractor soon.
There are many ways in which neck pain can be felt and experienced. We find after waking up in the morning after a restless night in a strange bed that we have a stiff and painful neck. This pain will be accompanied by other symptoms and is felt on one side or both the sides of the neck. The symptoms consist of tingling feeling in the fingers and hands, burning pain and pain or numbness which goes down the arms to the hands. Other symptoms include blurred vision, headaches and nausea. At times, people do not even realize that their neck has become stiff and sore and that is the main cause of complaint. Headache in such cases become severe and cause a lot of discomfort. Some of the causes of neck pain can be sports injury, fall, and automobile accident either now or in the past few years and other such traumatic incidents. You might not even be aware that you have adapted with the problem and your neck has become stiff now. You might have survived automobile accidents, degeneration of the joints of the cervical spine, abnormal changes in posture and protrusions and disc bulges. The main problem is wrong posture like pillows with less height of support, carrying children or shopping bags, wrong desk posture and heavy shoulder bags. Chiropractors promote contoured pillows to their patients as a lot of their time is spent in sitting, standing or driving in wrong postures. Chiropractic education makes the chiropractor enough skilled for them to find out the exact cause of neck pain out of all the possible reasons. Information on history of the patient and a few tests help in being sure of the reason and symptoms. Usually, the cases of neck pain do not consist of fever and infection and can be treated easily.
There are many causes of neck pain. One of them can be sleeping in a wrong posture and then having cramp in the neck the next morning. There might be an automobile accident that you were a part of and then experience neck pain due to whiplash. It can also be due to dancing a lot with sudden movements and then experiencing spasm while moving your head. These along with many other situations can result in neck pain. There can be many ways by which it can happen but it happens with everyone at least once in their lifetime. Usually, people take a wrong approach and just ignore the pain and discomfort thinking it will be fine by itself in a few days. But this does not kill the problem from its root. It does not correct joint restrictions and spinal misalignment. This might result in the pain coming back again in the future. Chiropractors diagnose the catalysts of the neck pain and treat the problem from the root. This type of treatment provides fast and long term effects. Trained chiropractors know that every complaint regarding cervical pain and discomfort does not always deal with problem with the neck. It can also evolve from middle, lower or upper back. In order to know the exact source, your chiropractor will conduct a physical test and evaluate your vertebral column. Motion palpation is the first step of the evaluation process. Your chiropractor will use touch to analyze if the joints in your spine have the proper movement or not. Observing your posture while walking and x-rays are also used to determine the condition of your spine. There are many methods by which chiropractic treatment takes place. Some chiropractors use manual method while some other goes for using instruments to maximize the pressure and force on the vertebrae. The approach in your case will depend on your condition. Flexion distraction method is another manual method by which adjustment takes place. This is done with the help of a special table. Chiropractors use repetitive thrusts so as to relive pressure that is caused due to misalignments in the spine. In this way, misaligned vertebrae are also corrected that results in pain in the neck.
There are many labs in the country that are examining many aspects like basic science and clinical aspects of chiropractic treatment. There are many researches going on regarding this and the future of chiropractic seems very promising. There have been two studies that have been published in The Spine Journal 1, 2 and have also been shown at RAC conference. These studies were the very first ones which measured relative deformation or biomechanical strain that springs up in the lumbar facet joint capsule. The main aim of the study was to determine the changes in the capsule’s strain due to subluxation during global spine motions. During physiological motions of normal spines, plain strains were measured at first. Then the same thing was measured in the same spine after the stimulation of hypermobile subluxation. Chiropractic treatment has always believed that one of the structures that are connected with the neurophysiological response to subluxation is the facet joint capsule. The motion of all the vertebrae in the spine is guided and controlled by facet joints. A research was carried to find out if facet joint capsules actually get enough mechanical stimulation so that neurons can be stimulated. As measured in the facet joint capsules, if there is any biomechanical change in the spine that gives way to subluxation, it will have a significant change or effect on the biomechanics of the spine. This is an important effect that takes place. Though this has been put in theory since a long time but now there are data to show that this is real. Though this part has not been tested yet but it also infers that the neurons innervating the face joint capsules will cause altered response in hypermobility of one part of the spine. There are two other major studies going on related to lumbar facet joint capsule. One of them is mostly into measuring the material properties of the human lumbar facet joint, however hard the face joint capsules are. Some might wonder why this is important. If you are to make a model of the spine and try to make it as real as you can, you should be aware of the various properties and characteristics of the tissues. There have been enough data for material property on the discs, vertebrae and spinal ligaments but not yet on the lumbar facet joint capsules. There are many researches that are being carried out but one thing is for sure chiropractic treatment goes hand in hand with biomechanics.
